Monster Reception

Seventh and Eighth grade students have been working on creating 3D monsters for the art students at Oakdale Elementary.  A reception was held yesterday at Saluda Trail so that the Oakdale students could receive their monsters from the 7th and 8th graders.   Oakdale Elementary students came in to the gallery in front of 7th grade hall and  had a brief discussion about their part in the project and the role our students played. Dennisa Perry read, "Where the Wild Things Are" to the students. The students then moved to the sculptures where they met and talked about their work and the process. Our 7th and 8th Grade students really stepped up and showed a great deal of pride and accomplishment. They worked hard over a 5 week period to create 3 dimensional sculptures using the 5th graders drawings as a blueprint. This is not an easy task! We are so proud of the way our students really embraced the responsibility of completing these for other students, knowing that they would not get to keep them. CN2 and the Herald were both there recording the kids and their reactions. It was really a wonderful thing to witness. Thank you everyone for your help and support throughout this process!

STMS is now a STEAM School

STMS is now a STEAM School!  Saluda Trail's Art Department has been known for its strong art, band, chorus, and drama programs.  In the past years, the annual musical productions have been outstanding as well and brought in the work of the costume design from the Family & Consumer Science class.  In addition, with our STEM program last year, our arts teachers added Digital Piano, Sculpture, Digital Media Art, Video Production (DAP) and Arts in Basic Curriculum (ABC) resulting in over $37,000 for our school,  This work and recognition has been recognized and the A was added to STEM to become STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math)!

Track Final Results

Please congratulate the boys and girls track teams when you see them. The boys won the conference championship and the girls took runner up and nearly won their championship (5 points shy). The boys' win was special because for only the second time in school history, a group of young men won three championships in one school year (football, basketball, track). Both teams showed a lot of class when the scores were announced and once again represented Saluda Trail in a very impressive style.

Girls on the Run

The Girls on the Run participants spent yesterday afternoon doing their community service project around STMS picking up trash and creating cards for teacher appreciation.  The Girls on the Run supervisors are very proud of all the hard work the girls have done this semester! The 5k is Saturday in downtown Rock Hill! Come join us or just cheer them on!
