Dress Clothes Donation
Students, 8th graders, are being asked to donate 2 clean, decent (no holes or rips) dress code items by Friday, May 29th. If students donate the items, they will be allowed to dress down, district dress code, for Friday, May 29th. This is only available to 8th grade students.

Address Change?
Attention 8th grade parents- If your address has changed anytime throughout the year, please provide proof of residence (electric bill, gas bill or lease agreement) to Mrs. Hilton in guidance as soon as possible. If we do not have the correct address in our system, your child may not receive their elective choices for 9th grade. In the years past we have been able to offer sports physicals at school. Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer this service this year. Please remember that in order for you to try-out or play a school sponsored sport, you must have a sports physical completed and on file. This has to be done each year.

iTeams Summer Camp
The Disappearing Frog Project
The Disappearing Frog Project is now on display
at the Community Performance Center on East Main Street in downtown Rock
Hill. Students researched endangered frogs and created artwork to reflect
what they learned. Each grade level used a different process to create
their piece. The artwork will be sold to raise funds for the Amphibian Survival
Alliance (ASA). The exhibition is open from today until April 25 as part
of Come-See-Me. Saluda Trail has 107 pieces of artwork in the exhibit. There
will be an opening reception at the Community Performance Center Saturday April
18 beginning at 6:00 pm. Robin Moore a noted Conservation Photographer and
author will speak at the reception. Moore's work has appeared in National
Geographic as well as many other conservation and wildlife magazines.

This School's Got STEM Finalist! Go VOTE!
SC Future Minds announced five finalists today in Comporium's "This School's Got STEM" competition, which attracted two dozen entrants from across the state who showed off the best of science, technology, engineering, and math their schools had to offer. Congratulations to Jordan Peek for being selected one of the finalists. Please go vote for his video on edible cars. You can place a vote once a day until Sunday, March 29th.

Knowledge Park Wildcat Entrepreneur Winners!
On Friday, a team of Saluda Trail students from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade were selected to compete in the Knowledge Park Entrepreneur Competition held at Winthrop University. The students were led by Chonce Dunham, Dr. Julie Marshall, Curriculum Coach Carolyn Moore and Principal Brenda Campbell. The students did a phenomenal job presenting their innovative idea.
After an intense week of preparing, and some awesome presentations, by all schools involved, the judges declared "WE" (Wildcat Entrepreneurs) the Winners.

Center for the Arts Teacher Choice Award Recipients
Three eighth grade students were chosen to have their art on display at the
Center for the Arts on Main Street in Downtown Rock Hill for this year's
Teacher's Choice Awards. Congratulations to Nick Caroselli, Sophie DiFrancesco, and Raeaynah Johnson.
Winners will be announced March 16th during the reception hosted by the
Center for the Arts. The reception begins at 6 p.m.

Engineers Week!
To celebrate Engineers Week, Saluda Trail Middle School had
Verizon Wireless Performance Engineers doing presentations all day to Team 8.3. The students were acting like Design
Engineers with a task of designing cell phone coverage in Rock Hill, SC to
cover the most population. They had to ensure that the hospital and the VIP’s
house were covered as well. They were given a budget of $1 million or less
and could use a maximum of 7 cell phone towers. The team of students that
covered the most population under budget earned an iTunes gift card, donated by the engineers.

USC Upstate Science Fair Awards
Congratulations to Taylor Bartlett for receiving recognition at the USC Upstate Science Fair. She submitted a project entitled "Which acids degrade metals the fastest?". She earned a special award by the Navy. Great Job Taylor!

Pasta For Pennies Campaign
Our
annual two week pennies for pasta campaign will begin February 23 through March
6th.
The classroom that has raised the most money overall will win a Olive Garden Pasta party.

Softball Try-Outs
Softball tryouts will
begin next week. They will take place from Tuesday 2/10-Thursday 2/12
from 4-5:30pm on the softball field. Girls should have a physical on
file, bring all of their equipment and clothing for both indoor and outdoor
tryouts, and make sure parents are at school to pick them up at 5:30pm.

9th Grade Orientation
Students who
will be first-time high school freshmen next school year (2015-16) are

8th grade IGP's
8th grade IGP's are scheduled for Wednesday, 2/18. IGP (Inidividual graduation plan) conferences are held so that you and your child can make an informed decision about classes and individual career paths for high school. Please plan to attend this conference. Letters with appointment times will be mailed out soon. Please feel free to contact me with any questions once you receive your letter.
Job Shadowing
Students will be able to Job Shadow on Monday, 2/2. Your child received a permission slip today along with shadowing guidelines. The permission slip and a stamped envelope are due to Mrs. Pruett by 1/28. This is a great opportunity for your child to gain knowledge and experience about a particular career. 8th Grade Lady Wildcats Basketball
Ladies Soccer Try-outs
South Pointe High School Ladies Soccer tryouts will be held Monday,
February 2nd at 4PM on the soccer fields. Any 7th or 8th grade girl interested

Reminder that these exams will count 20% of your semester grade unless you are taking a class with an EOC (English I and Algebra I). If you are taking an EOC class then your teacher will explain to you how the exam grade will be averaged in.

In-School Basketball Game
Monday, January 12th Saluda Trail will host Sullivan in basketball at 2 p.m. Students are invited to attend this game during the school day. In order to attend, the students will need to have all missing assignments turned in and will need to pay $3 (Non-Refundable). Students with a Wildcat Card will be able to use the Wildcat Card to gain entrance into the game. Tickets to the game will be sold during lunch this week. The last day to purchase the tickets will be Monday prior to the end of lunch. Also, students will have the opportunity to purchase a drink and chips at the door. The drinks and chips will cost $1 a piece. Please have correct change with you in order to purchase items.
